We live in a generation where if you don’t know something, just Google it. This works well for information like Lady Gaga’s birthday or movie showings, but when it comes to maters of a religion with no true, set doctrine or scriptural text, information found on the internet is not always reliable.

Here is a list of ways that I have used the internet to my advantage during my long, long years of study with out any books or teachers.

1.Take notes! If you find a relevant piece of information copy and paste it into a word document as well as the html source of the info. That way when you find the same bit of information somewhere else you can compare it to see how it stands up and make informed decisions. This is also good for starting a book of shadows.

2. Read as many different sources as you can. When looking up a particular God or Goddess look at multiple sources and take notes on the information that tends to come up the most. it is most likely that there is some truth to these bits of information. Look for sites that have a high recognition. Also don’t be ashamed to look at Wikipedia. It can put things in perspective but not take everything as “gospel”. Remember to keep those notes of everything you find.

3. Look for feedback messages or comments. Sometimes thoughtful discussion can go on there where one reader may have found a factual error in the information. Sometimes the writer will weed out those that contradict what they said but for the most part, the pagan community is up for discussion and debate.

4. Look at forums. There are some crazies, uninformed and buckets of drama in forums but most likely some question you have may have been answered there for you already. Searching though old posts can be very helpful.

5. Do some shopping. One of the easiest ways to get your hand on a book is though the illegal downloading. I do not endorse this but I have used this as a tool. I find a book I’m interested it, look it up for download and skim though it to find out if the book is for me. Then if I want the book, I search it down on half.com, one of the best places on the web to get cheap hard copies of books. Its easier then finding a hard copy of a book like a library or a store copy.

6. Reviews Reviews Reviews. You want a book to buy? look up reviews. Always to see if the author is on the up and up. Look up multiple blogs to see if its a good good with good information. Chances are, there is a review somewhere.

7. RSS Feed connection are your friends. Every blog I can find that has a good bit of information, I subscribe to RSS feeds or follow on my WordPress feed. This is how I like to keep up on pagan community info and useful blog posts. Sometimes I find a post that I like but I have something to add to it that end up parking a new blog post.

I hope this helps you in your journey. Tanks for reading and please leave a comment. Love all of you.

Anyone feel like getting angry? i got some videos for you. Thanks as always to RightWingWatch.org

Greenwell Springs Baptist Church pastor Dennis Terry introduced presidential candidate Rick Santorum and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a rousing speech railing against liberals and non-Christians and condemning abortion rights, “sexual perversion,” same-sex marriage and secular government. Terry said that America “was founded as a Christian nation” and those that disagree with him should “get out! We don’t worship Buddha, we don’t worship Mohammad, we don’t worship Allah!”

It is a little worrying. the “everyone else is wrong” mentality is being sported and clapped at in large gathering halls of militant angry people. It’s like my high school chapel services all over again. Things like this is scary for the “everyone else crowd”. If the Right wing obsessive hate toward the gays and lesbians somehow dies down, I fear the full force of that hate coming down on the fringe groups like pagans. Any LGBT pagans out there, I would like to give you a hug via internet.

On a lighter note, want to listen to Pat Robertson talk about oral sex between a man and wife? It made me laugh, though I’m a little immature.

Wait… so if you think its a sin then it is and if your don’t think it is then it isn’t… I believe that’s Commandment 13. Seven years of Christan schooling, life time of Sunday school, teaching vacation bible school and serving as a deacon, I never heard that philosophy. Must be new. Haha

She is that girl who you roll your eyes at in the Wiccan forums and chat rooms. She is the girl you see in the new age section of the book stores. She took movies like The Craft way too seriously. Sometimes Teen Witch Wendys evolve and understand the pagan faiths are more than a fashion statement and truly dedicate their lives to it’s study. Others will grow out of it as a passing phase. Teen Witch Wendy’s are not bad. Just annoying.

Note: this is NOT ALL TEENS. Not everyone who come to Wicca/paganism are like this and I don’t mean to offend. Just I think we all know who this is…. And maybe some of us were once just like her.

I call it “1” because I know there will be more. II also do not specify “Christian” because I’ve heard a lot of hurtful things from athesists about pagans but they dont scream as loudly as the right wing I use for my examples below.

Thanks to The Wild Hunt and Religious Right Watch, activistausa for these glaring insensitive remarks. The facebook stats were found at Openbook though a simple search. Some I can sit back and laugh about and others just hurt deep inside. I think most of these speak for themselves.

Our religion? So no one out there needs to be respected?

I found a YouTube channel of a guy that went though a Wal-Mart book section and declared every book there evil. Some had vampires and werewolves and I can accept that some people think that. Then he said some Christan books and even a copy of the bible was evil because it was not King James translation. I skimmed through the rest of his videos for something maybe more offending to put here. I found a video of him destroying a bible. I was shocked but took a look. Anything not King James Translation he considered “counterfeit” and evil. He then shot it with his gun. I wont link the video here because I don’t want him to have any more views from me but I’ll tel you his account is GodGunsGutsGlory4KJV The fact that this man has guns scares me but I am comforted in knowing that he isn’t a very good shot. Also he has kids… ehhhh

I could not resist making this meme. the “What people think I do” meme has come about this week to a lot of love and a lot of hate. I thought I’d be the first to make one from a pagan/wiccan perspective… but then I found others who had already done them and posted them to their blogs…

The point it, I think its ok to laugh at ourselves.

Hey there Pagan Internet

I am officially re-launching the blog today. Over the past year since I created this blog, I have gone though some changes; my god and goddess have revealed themselves to me, I found a wonderful coven where I feel at home and graduated from college.

Sadly, my pagan blog sort of went bland. I think where I fell down is that I had a jumbled idea of what I wanted the blog to be. I tried to be informative with my Dixie Cup Pagan entries. I tried to take stances on issues facing the pagan community but I never really got to them on time. There are much better blogs that do such a better job then I could ever do as a pagan activist, fighting for equality in the religious scene.

What am I really good at? Writing stupid and sometimes witty things.

So I did create a personal blog to keep some of my personal and non pagan things out of this blog (I will not link it here) What I am all about is the internet. I as a citizen of the internet nation speak in memes and am very connected to the inner workings of the culture as a whole.

So that is what this will be. many more that I think that someone teen-age and though college age may relate to. This will Kaida’s journal will continue being a pagan/wiccan/polytheistic blog but I will no longer try to be something I’m not by imitating other blogs. I may get outraged at something and news and post it here and I may post some how-to’s. You may see a rage comic, advice animal, or just a bunch of YouTube links with minor commentary. Most of all I’m just going to be myself.

Thanks for reading

-Kaida
